African Sand In My Shoes

While attending Moody Bible Institute in 1995, I had the great opportunity to travel with one of my missions professors, along with a team of students, to South Africa for a 6 week missions trip. Just before I left, I received a note from Lois Zigrang, one of the missionaries that I met several months earlier during MBI’s annual missions conference. Lois wrote in the note that she prayed that the African sand and country would stay permanently in my shoes!

I am thrilled to create this blog to share about how the Lord has directed our steps over the years and more recently is leading us back to Africa! I pray that the Lord is glorified as I share about all of the wonderful things that He has done!

When we first started to pray about going overseas again, I was reading Radical, by David Platt. In his book, Pastor Platt talks about the hidden treasure in Matthew 13:44. Jesus says, “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.” Pastor Platt highlights how the man went with joy and sold all that he had because he knew that he found something greater than anything he had, something greater than anything he’d leave behind. The Lord used that Scripture in my life at that time and several times since then to challenge me and encourage me as I desire to obey and follow the Lord.  I began to pray that I would be like that man Jesus spoke about; that I would give it all up for the Lord… with JOY!

  1. That’s great news!! We’re reading Radical right now along with a small group from our church in WI. Where in Africa is the Lord leading you??

    • Hi Inge!
The Lord is leading us to Cameroon, Central Africa; We’ll travel there for a vision trip after the new year to see what it’s like, what ministry is going on there & hope to receive confirmation if this is where the Lord wants us. While we’re there, we’ll visit with the team leader and his family and visit Rainforest International School where the kids could attend. Our kids will join us for this trip which will be wonderful for them to meet new friends.
