Finding grace

We traveled from our home in Illinois to Wisconsin, to drop our children off with some close friends that they’d be staying with and then on to Minnesota for the week-long, ReachGlobal Readiness Event; A time for ReachGlobal to learn more about us and a time for us to learn more about ReachGlobal, ourselves and our God. And towards the end of the week, we would either be invited to join the ReachGlobal staff, or they would tell us that we needed to wait or they would say no.

When we got there, I was wrestling with some anxiety, and some feelings of inadequacy and self-consciousness. So I prayed that I would remember God’s Word and how He’s guided us all this way. I prayed that I would trust Him, keep my eyes on Him and that I would be good to stay or good to go as He led. And I texted several dear friends to ask them to pray for me about my feelings and for us as we went through the week. I’m so thankful for close friends who pray.  And I’m thankful for my God who cares for me and gives me His grace to help me in my times of need.

During our first morning at the event, we had a special time of worship. We sang a song that talked about bringing our weakness to His throne which was so appropriate for how I was feeling. Then later that morning, we studied different people in the Bible and how they responded to God’s call; people like Moses and Jonah. Moses made excuses and asked God to send someone else. And Jonah ran the other way! But God still used them and He still uses us, despite all of our imperfections and weaknesses.

God met me right where I was at that morning. He spoke truth into my heart and mind that I needed to hear and focus on. The rest of the week, though intense, was very good. Thursday came, and we were invited to join the ReachGlobal staff. We were so glad!

“Let us approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

Hebrews 4:16

  3. Thank you for your prayers! That’s so important to us. And we have started a prayer journal so keep us posted on how we can pray for you as well.

  4. Cathy,

Thank you for sharing that! I believe I’ve heard some of that before, but it was so good to READ it and be reminded that we all feel inadequate at times. Thank you for the reminder too that only through prayer and God’s Mighty Hand can we be relieved of our anxieties and used despite our inadequacies. Praying for you all as you prepare to go!
