Secret Joy

Joshua and I have been reading George Mueller-The Guardian of Bristol’s Orphans by Janet & Geoff Benge; a book from the Christian Heroes: Then and Now collection.

As a young man, George was a liar, a thief and he drank too much. But God got a hold of his life and George began to follow Jesus Christ.  His life was changed. Then George was called to be a missionary. He eventually opened up several orphanages for hundreds of poor children in Bristol, England at a time of great economic turmoil.

George prayed and trusted God for every need. He was an amazing man of faith. God answered and provided for George, often in miraculous ways.

Today, Joshua and I read how one time when George was trusting God for money to build another orphanage, he wrote in his journal,

“The greatness of the sum required affords me a kind of secret joy; for the greater the difficulty to be overcome, the more will it be seen to the glory of God how much can be done by prayer and faith.” (P. 158)

This reading was God’s ordained timing as I was reminded, during these tough economic times, of how God is our Father who provides and overcomes great difficulty!

As ReachGlobal Missionary Candidates, we have started to develop ministry partners who give financially to the work God is leading us to and who support us in prayer. We currently have about 11% of the funds needed and we hope in faith to move to Yaounde, Cameroon in January, 2013 to do the work the Lord has called us to.

May we have the same secret joy that George Mueller had as we anticipate in prayer and faith what God will do during this time of our lives!

Our prayer requests:

* that the Lord would raise up prayer and financial partners to join our team.
* for help as we prepare to rent our home and that the Lord would provide good renters.
* for the Lord’s guidance in our lives in these upcoming months of transition.
