Sign me up!

When we were in Wisconsin recently, a friend asked where we were at with our support raising. We told him that we were at about 20% of the monthly funds that we need to do the work that the Lord is calling us to in Africa. We told him that we need to be at 50% by the end of June to start an on-line training class and then attend a fall training in Minnesota. Otherwise, the next training is not until the Spring of 2013.

I was reading Isaiah 22 today.  The Word says in verses 9-11, “…you saw that the City of David had many breaches in its defenses; you stored up water in the Lower Pool. You counted the buildings in Jerusalem and tore down houses to strengthen the wall. You built a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the Old Pool, but you did not look to the One who made it, or have regard for the One who planned it long ago.”  The people worked hard to provide an adequate water supply and strong defenses but they didn’t go to the Lord who is their greatest help. They were busy working, but didn’t depend on the Lord.

The Lord’s Word is true and it is applicable for us today.  We are at a time in our lives when we are preparing to go overseas. We are sharing with people about the work that God is calling us to do and we are looking for people who want to partner with us through prayer and financial support, in ministry with Africans. We are busy, but as His Word reminds us, it is God who is our help. May we daily look to the Lord for His help.

We know that God is able. He is able to provide. He is able to develop our team of prayer and financial partners.

Will He burden people’s hearts to commit to giving regularly? He is able.

Will He work a huge miracle of providing the other 30% of the funds needed by the end of the month? He is able.

We give this need into the Lord’s hands. We are not in control. God is. He knows when we will go and that time is perfect. We just have to be ready.

Before we could even finish telling our friend in Wisconsin where we were at with our support raising,  he said, “Sign me up!” We were so encouraged by our friend’s support, his heart for the Lord and the Lord’s work.
