Counting my blessings

Our Elgin EFree pastor started serving at our church one year ago. Since then, he and his family have been waiting for their home in Wisconsin to sell. He recently wrote in a note to the church that, “We still have received no offers on the house. And if I only focus on that I can become very frustrated. So I choose to focus on things that are blessings.”  He’s choosing to focus on the Lord, instead of on his circumstances.

Pastor Brian’s words were an encouragement to us, and his perspective is a good example for us.  We could become discouraged or frustrated with our circumstances as we wait to go to Africa. But, instead, we need to keep our eyes on Christ.  On this day, and hopefully in the days that follow, I choose to count my blessings.

Today, I thank God for these blessings:

* A wonderful husband of 15 years who I’m blessed to partner with in parenthood, and who I have enjoyed working with.  He encourages me when I’m feeling discouraged, is a good listener, offers wise counsel, and helps me laugh!   🙂

* Wonderful parents who have lovingly opened up their comfortable home to our family of four, plus our dog and the kids’ trampoline, as we prepare for Africa.

* Our kids who are growing in their relationship with Jesus. Hannah is kind and responsible, and Joshua is thoughtful and laid back.

* Spotlight Youth Theater; a place where our kids have cultivated special friendships, where they have learned about musical theater, and where Christ is modeled in the lives of so many of the directors and teachers.

* Our van that is still running pretty well, despite a few bumps and bruises, and 210,000 miles!

* The beautiful autumn colors.

* God’s Word that teaches me more about Him and how amazing He is.

* Good Bible teachers and Christ-focused worship music that speak truth into my heart and mind.

* Special brothers and sisters in Christ to encourage me in my walk with our Father.
