Steps of Faith

The Lord has given me friendships with older women in the faith, who are serving the Lord in full-time overseas missions work or who are preparing to go. And as such, they understand a lot of what we are going through as we get ready to serve overseas. They have encouraged me,  shared His Truth with me, and they are praying for me daily.  Sheryl Gasser is one of these ladies.

We met Wayne and Sheryl Gasser during ReachGlobal’s Pre-field Training last April.  Wayne and Sheryl will be working with the ReachGlobal staff in Latin America and their national ministry partners in Central America, South America and the Caribbean.  Wayne is an area leader, and God has given Sheryl a vision for working with women–encouraging them when they visit them, and then keeping that relationship going on at least a monthly basis through Skype, emails, etc.

Sheryl and I had a conversation recently that has effected how I pray for our ministry partners and potential ministry partners. She said:  “One day while in the thick of developing our partner teams, God impressed on me to pray for people who were considering supporting us. I had already been praying for them, but this time it was in a new way.

When I read Philippians 4, I saw that God supplied Paul’s needs through people. He then said in verse 19: “And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”

I realized that not only am I dependent on God to do the work He has called me to do, but each one that was considering supporting my husband and I would have to know that God would also supply their needs. This journey was a huge step of faith for everyone. So I started praying that those who were considering supporting us would have faith to believe that God would supply their needs.”

Sheryl is so right! We are dependent on God to supply our needs to do the work that He has called us to do in Africa. And we pray that each one who considers and chooses to partner with us in this Africa ministry would know that God will supply their needs as well. This is truly a huge step of faith for everyone!

When a friend recently joined our Africa Ministry Support Team (by praying and giving to the ministry), he shared with us how the Lord challenged him to trust God to supply his needs. He said:

“But, in the end we believe that there is only one option God is challenging us to do right at this moment in our lives. He wants us to see if we have enough faith in Him to give that which belongs to Him to further a cause which is all about Him… He is wanting to see if we will obediently answer His call and trust Him for our future expenses.  He wants to see if we really believe He can multiply 2 fish and 5 loaves to feed the thousands. And so we humbly contribute this amount to your cause as you seek to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ in Cameroon.”

And there are others. Other individuals, couples and families on our ministry support team who are giving and trusting God to supply their needs. We are so blessed by each one.  We are so thankful for the steps of faith that they have taken.

Sheryl wrote a special request to you, who read her testimony, “Please pray with me for the Katos. It is a journey of faith as they wait for God’s perfect timing. At some point, we all come to the place where we have done all we can do to find those who would partner with us in prayer and financially, and that is exactly where God wants us. Then we get out of the way and watch God work. My husband and I are praying that the Katos will soon be on their way to Cameroon, Africa—that God will give them this desire of their hearts and that God will stretch the faith of the many that are needed to get them there.”

Thank you for joining Wayne and Sheryl in prayer for our family, as we seek to raise the remaining 28% of the funds needed to serve in Cameroon.

We are praying for you; that you will trust the Lord and believe that He will supply all of your needs.

-In Christ, Cathy Lynn

  1. Great letter and truth shared Kathy. This is such a good reminder that all of us depend on God to meet our needs – and He is honored when we put that into practice by continually giving to Him. I appreciate your thoughts. May The Lord move mountains in response to your faith — and prayer. We continue to pray with you.

    • Thank you, Debbie! I hope you know that you are one of the blessings in my life that I spoke about; an older woman of faith, serving Jesus in missions, who has encouraged me personally in my walk with the Lord.
