my language learning

Have you ever watched the movie, Akeela and the Bee? It’s about a young girl named Akeela who is from the lower-resourced part of Los Angeles, California.  Akeela overcomes many obstacles and competes in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. One of my favorite parts of the movie is just before Akeela travels to Washington D.C. for the competition. The movie shows how she gets help from so many people in her community…. her mom, teacher, personal tutor, trouble-maker brother and his friends, and friends at school. They all cheered her on and practiced with her. They all played a part in her winning the Scripps Spelling Bee!

I have thought about this movie as I learn French! I have many people around me who are trying to help me succeed in learning French! I have been blessed with a great French instructor named Nadege, a language helper named Monique, and a new friend named Adaline. There are shop-keepers who help me like Lucy and her daughter, Larissa.  There is a guard named Abanda, who works across the road from Lucy and Larissa, and a few neighborhood kids who also help me!

As I pronounce words incorrectly, and as I stumble over my short sentences that probably make me sound like a young child to them, they tell me, “You’re doing good!… In a few months you’ll be sounding great!”  🙂  They are cheering me on in my language learning!

Nadege, Monique, Adaline, Lucy, Larissa, Abanda, and neighborhood kids are all such a blessing and encouragement to me! And they are all teaching me about the Cameroonian culture along the way!

Please pray that the Lord would bless these special people who help me learn French, and that our whole family would learn the language and culture well!

For Christ,  Cathy Lynn
