I was shocked

Today, one of my dearest Cameroonian friends stopped by our home to greet me since I have been away for over three weeks. It was so great to see her and catch up a little!  This sister in Christ has been my language instructor, and she has been my cultural insider. She and her husband walk in faith, fully devoted to and dependent on Jesus.

She and her husband are full-time Cameroonian missionaries who direct a mission organization in Cameroon that reaches the unreached; people who have never heard the Gospel. They are developing, empowering, and releasing African Christians to reach the unreached with the Gospel. Because of this dear couple’s leadership, many Bible studies have started in the city, people have come to know Jesus as their Savior, and much love has been shown among the poorest of the poor in Yaounde. They have provided for some of the people’s most basic needs of food and medical care, and they have provided funds so that children could go to school who wouldn’t otherwise be able to go. They have taught literacy classes to Cameroonian adults who can’t read.

Two months ago, my friend and her husband commissioned a young Cameroonian missionary couple to a village in northern Cameroon. This couple wants to share the Gospel among an unreached people group; a village where there is no one following Christ. All of the funds that the organization has received over the last few months have gone towards the establishment of this new ministry in the north.

I found out today, that my friend and her family have been without running water in their home for the last two weeks. They have not had the money to pay their water bill so the city turned it off. My friend’s husband has been carrying water from where-ever he could get it. They have sacrificed so much for the spreading of the Gospel, that they have gone without one of the most basic needs so that more people could hear about Jesus.

I was shocked when I heard this. But why was I shocked when this is the way that this couple has shown to live their lives. They are radical followers of Jesus, and their treasures are in Heaven. They are willing to give up the comfort of having running water in their home so that His name would be made known.

Could you imagine doing this?

In Christ, Cathy Lynn

  1. It warms my heart to hear that folks are doing real sacrificial work for the sake of the Gospel! Thanks for sharing!
